Subject: [PSN] Ask Cal pension funds to divest!
Reply-To: palestine_solidarity_network@googlegroups.com
Do you pay taxes to the State of California? Are you a CalSTRS or CalPERS Member?
Please join me in signing a petition calling on state and teacher pension funds to divest
from companies profiting off of the Israeli occupation: www.israeldivestmentcampaign.org/petition.htm
On December 12th, members of the Israel Divestment Campaign (IDC) will be presenting its petition to CalPERS (the Public Employee Retirement System), the largest public pension fund in the US, calling on it to start the process that leads to divestment. They have targeted some of the companies that facilitate/profit from Israeli violation of human rights, International law, and UN Resolutions, including: Caterpillar, Elbit and Veolia.
Help the campaign reach its goal by signing the peition online today! www.israeldivestmentcampaign.org/petition.htm and be sure to respond to the automated message after you sign asking you to confirm your signature.
Please share and forward far and wide!
Thank you -
Dalit

Activist and researcher Dalit Baum will give a speech in Taipei on Dec. 10 titled People Power in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: A View From the Grassroots. The talk is part of the Lung Yingtai Cultural Foundation’s (龍應台文化基金會) MediaTek TaipeiSalon (台北沙龍) lecture series. Baum cofounded Who Profits From the Occupation (www.whoprofits.org), an online resource providing information about corporate complicity in the occupation of the Palestinian Territories. Her lecture seeks to illustrate how corporations profit from Israel’s control of the Gaza Strip, West Bank and Golan Heights, and how the 3.5 million Palestinians under Israeli military rule have boosted the bottom line of businesses involved in private security, construction, roadblocks, checkpoints and prisons. Baum has infuriated many of her targets because she commonly cites companies by name and draws direct parallels between their business practices and the suffering of the Palestinian people. Baum pulls no punches in her criticisms, making her lectures intellectually stimulating, if not outright provocative. Harry S. Jones of ICRT will moderate the lecture.
